Finally getting around to posting about Europe! Happy Reading!

11/20/22: My friend and I had a 10 hour layover today in Stockholm, Sweden so we decided to explore downtown a bit.
Once we got to the airport, we were able to get on a direct train to downtown Stockholm for the airport (how I have missed being in places with good public transportation). Since we arrived on an early Sunday morning after it had snowed, our first views of Stockholm were truly that of a winter wonderland. It was so beautiful I almost forgot how ill-prepared I was for the snow. It wasn’t until after we had been walking in the snow for 20 minutes that I realized my sneakers were completely soaked through and my toes were numb.

We quickly sought shelter in a cute cafe around Gamla Stan, and tried infamous Swedish hot chocolate and cinnamon rolls. The hot chocolate was so rich and creamy, and definitely required a lactaid. The cinnamon roll bread was simply divine, and I think the main difference from the American versions of these two was that they both were not overly sweet. Not having as much sugar (especially processed sugar) really helped to taste all of the other flavors and textures involved. I also tried a salmon pie with veggies, which was kind of like a quiche but with salmon inside. I promise it tastes way better than it sounds. Scandinavian salmon is something else.
Once we were done with breakfast, we were ready to explore the Christmas Market and Gamla Stan. There, we tried glühwein, which is the Swedish version of mulled wine. As you can probably guess, it was incredibly refreshing. As the day went on, it continued to get colder and colder, so we then began bopping around between different stores. I was able to get a new pair of warmer shoes and a troll (look how cute it is). After our impromptu shopping spree, we headed back to the airport to catch our next flight to… Amsterdam!!
